BOOK SMUGGLERS
PUBLISHING ANNOUNCES:
THE NOVELLA INITIATIVE
The Book Smugglers' Hugo
Award-nominated* editors and reviewers Ana Grilo and Thea James to start a new
phase in their publishing venture, Book Smugglers Publishing.
Starting in 2017, Book Smugglers Publishing
are looking at publishing four Speculative Fiction novellas per year, alongside
our short stories, anthologies, and other works.
Looking for original novellas from all
around the world as long as they are written in English, the goal is
to publish four novellas in 2017, and each novella will be accompanied by one
original piece of artwork from an artist commissioned separately.
Welcoming submissions for the Middle Grade, Young Adult and Adult
audiences as well as works within the Romance, Horror and Science Fiction
genres, Book Smugglers Publishing’s stated mission is to publish novellas that
reflect the diverse world we live in, about and from traditionally
underrepresented perspectives. Submissions are open now, and will be open
through May 30 2016.
Founded in 2008 by Ana Grilo and Thea James, The Book Smugglers,
LLC is an influential review blog dedicated to speculative fiction for all
ages. With daily posts that include trademark incisive reviews to author
articles and blogger essays, The Book Smugglers also hosts interviews,
giveaways, and round-up articles, taking pride in their consistency and
uncompromising criticism of genre fiction. More importantly, they are passionate
about diversity and inclusivity, especially when it comes to speculative
fiction fandom. Since 2012, Ana and Thea became regular weekly columnists for
Kirkus’ Science Fiction
& Fantasy Blog and in 2014, edited Speculative Fiction 2013, an anthology of
the best reviews and essays published online in 2013. They have been nominated in 2014 for a Hugo
Award for Best Fanzine. Launched in 2014
with six initial short stories, Book Smugglers Publishing is their newly minted
publishing arm.
